Baby Makes Two....

Last December Zak and I found out that we are expecting Baby #2. We waited for a while to tell family and friends and finally broke the news to most everyone at the end of January.
The picture you see to the right was our first introduction to the new person that will join the Kaplan clan in August 2007. This ultrasound was done at the doctor's office on 1/16/07, I was 8 weeks prego at the time.
Since then, I've gotten a "pot" as Zak likes to refer to it and have gained a couple of pounds, nothing to write home about. The baby is actively kicking, punching, and rolling about in its lovely swimming pool that my poor body has so nicely provided for the next 22 weeks.
Zak and I went to my 18 week appointment and 2nd trimester ultrasound yesterday. At the ultrasound (which lasted for 75 minutes, most of which I had a very full bladder), we saw detailed parts of our new baby of which the technicians took numerous measurements and pictures. As far as they can tell, the baby is healthy and growing well. We also found out that my wishes for a baby girl are not to be answered with this baby as it is a BOY!!! So, I will have to be happy buying girlie things for our friends and family that have little girls. Jaxon, in the meantime will have a live-in playmate (when Baby #2 is old enough) and Zak and I will save a mint on clothes and toys. Poor kid will have the hand-me-down complex for at least the first 12 years of his life or until he can afford to buy his own things.
We currently do not have a name for Baby #2 and are searching for the right name that doesn't sound like a used-car salesman's name or is too common so that he turns around along with 12 of his classmates because we choose the #1 boy name for 2007. If you all have any suggestions, we are open.
I'll continue to post pictures from ultrasounds and ultimately, the real thing as time goes on. In the meantime, think happy thoughts for me as I go to being the only woman in the house!!

Disneyland at Christmas - December 12, 2006

These are pictures from our obligatory trip to Disneyland at Christmas time. Michelle and Tenley had already been to Disneyland at least a gazillion times already by the time we had made this pilgrimage (Tenley's daddy works at Disneyland and they have lots of friends besides us that like to go too.)

The kids had a good time riding the usual Dumbo, Small World, Sleeping Beauty's carousel, and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride among others. Overall it was a nice day and we escaped before the throngs of AP's (Annual Passholders, yes I know, that includes us) converged on the park to see the fireworks, parade, and fake snow (read: many tiny bubbles).

Christmas Time at the Mission Inn

The week before Christmas we went to view the historic Mission Inn in downtown Riverside with Jeff, Michelle, and Tenley. I had heard that their Christmas light display is beyond amazing and that they start putting up the thousands of lights and decorations at the end of October.

After dining at Spaghetti Factory and managing to find a parking spot downtown, we walked around the block looking at the lights and various animated figures that the hotel sets up. Jaxon and Tenley took in the ice skating rink and Auntie Michelle found a vendor that sold these neat, twirly, psychadelic, light up toys. The kids loved them, despite making us parents temporarily blind.

Needless to say, we all had a good time getting into the holiday spirit. If you are ever visiting the area at Christmas, head down to the Mission Inn to see this awesome display.
