Introducing Baby Logan....

On Monday, July 30th, 2007 our new addition to the Kaplan family entered the world. Baby Logan Yasuo Kaplan was born at 3:43 am at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He weighed in at a respectable 7 lbs and was 19 inches long. Logan was two weeks early, much to the relief of my poor body. :)

I pretty much labored at home during the evening and into the night - even making a trip out to Target for some last minute items. The nurses said I have a high pain tolerance, I guess so...I never really gave it much thought. We were lucky enough to have Matt (my brother) in town visiting and attending a job interview so when we left for the hospital at 1:30 am, someone was able to stay at home with a sleeping Jaxon. Matt, however, thought every little noise was Jaxon so he didn't sleep so well. Sorry Mattie!

After much poking and persuading, I was able to get Zak out of bed at 1:00 am and told him it was time to leave. He took his sweet time getting dressed and getting the car loaded up. You would think we were taking a road trip rather than rushing to the hospital to have a baby. Sheesh! We were finally able to leave 30 minutes later and arrived at the hospital around 2:00 am. Zak dropped me off at the ER entrance ( you can't use the main entrance in the middle of the night) and parked the car. A few minutes later we were headed past the ER admittance desk (the security guards hurriedly pointed us in the direction of the elevators with a look that clearly said, "Please don't have this kid here in front of the desk.") and up to the 3rd floor for Labor & Delivery. The nice nurses thankfully took my information quickly and herded us into a L&D room where I changed into the sexy gowns they have at all hospitals and took a seat on the "bed". I call this a "bed" because it is probably the most uncomfortable place to hang out for extended amounts of time and because the end of it nicely comes off for the delivery.

At any rate, I was having nice regular contractions while my nurse, Joanna, took all my information and asked me a million questions. I told them I wanted my epidural and she called for the anethesiologist to come up to my room. Evidentally, Logan decided he was going to fast forward everything and the anethesiologist wasn't able to make it up to the room in time to give me an epidural. Poor me! After checking, it was determined that I was fully dialated and there was no time to give me pain medication of any kind. I was about to give birth unaided by legal narcotics. Yikes!! So, after much pain and angst, Logan entered the world screaming at the top of his lungs, letting all of us and the entire hospital know that he was here. We should have taken this as a foreshadowing of things to come as he definitely has a fiery personality and he lets you know when he is mad!

Zak was very supportive, telling me I was doing a good job, helped me with breathing and let me cut off circulation to his arm during this entire ordeal. I couldn't have done it without him!

Here are pictures of Logan fresh and new with Mom.
